Why I started lifting weights

The short answer to this question is – because I fucking wanted to, that’s why.

But since you probably haven’t clicked the link to hear that answer, let me give you the longer version.

I re-started lifting weights when I was almost 30. Not old but not a youngster anymore either. I was a 29 years old overweight motherfucker working 9 to 5 in an office.

First and foremost I was almost disgusted by the way I looked. My confidence and my mood were shit and I had no reason or no courage to walk tall among friends, colleagues or other people around me. I was feeling inferior to almost anybody.

Luckily for me, one morning for no reason at all, I woke up and decided to make a change in my life, change the man in the mirror (as Michael Jackson says). And that’s what I did.

I decided to become a better version of myself. In fact, along the way I decided I want to become the best version of myself – constantly reaching out for more, never satisfied with the results, each day working harder than yesterday and being one step closer to my goals and vision.

Why all the effort? I am not trying to become the next Mr. Olympia, I am not trying to impress anybody. But I want want to prove myself I can do it. I want to be able to look in the mirror and be satisfied with who I am, what I’ve accomplished and what I did with my time.

At the end of the day the only thing that matters is your own fucking opinion and what you think about yourself. You are the only one that knows whether or not you’ve put in all the effort and gave all that you could. Regardless if it’s in the gym, at school at work or at running your own business.

You are the only one that knows that! Don’t let time fly away by you postponing what you can do today. Act now. Struggle, work, sweat, never settle! Do whatever you can to become the best version of yourself.

Let me close this with an analogy by Jim Rohn which I like:

Do you know how tall a tree grows? Approximately?

As  tall as it possibly can! You never heard of a tree growing half as high as it could. No, trees don’t grow half. Trees send their roots as deep as possible, send their limbs up as high as possible, produce every leaf possible and every fruit possible.

People are different from trees because they have the freedom of choice. What will you choose?

Here is a little bit of how I got into fitness, where I started, where I am and where I want to go.

My 1 Year Transformation

Not exactly sure if it is a real transformation, like the ones you see on TV or in the magazines, where people being seriously overweight and having health issues lose hundreds of pounds. I see it more as a ‘getting fit’ process.

So, my mission to get fit, get healthier, live a better life and be more comfortable about myself began in September 2014 when I was around 240 pounds and over 30% body fat. I am 6 feet tall by the way.

Almost a year later, in October 2015 I was about 196 pounds and approximately 18% body fat – still not where I want to be, but definitely an improvement.

You can check out my before and after pictures below.

1 year transformation

Sorry about the quality of the pictures but at the moment I didn’t know I am going to start a website and share them with the world.

Losing all the weight and putting on some muscle involved weight training, cardio, diet, dedication, consistency, time and effort. I am writing about all of them on this website so make sure to subscribe if you want to stay connected.
