A few words on self image and discipline

A few words on self image and discipline

Motivation
A few days ago I watched a very cool YouTube video of a guy named Radu Antoniu. This is was not the everyday ‘get lean tips’ video, it was so much more than that. I’ve been watching Radu for almost a year now and I was aware of his approach to fitness and his ‘philosophy’ (if I can call it that) for that matter, but this video really stood up from all the videos and just made perfect sense to me. In very few words, the summary of the video is that you can do pretty much anything you want if you set your mind right. That’s no secret you might say, and I agree – this is no news for anybody – but the way he puts into words…

Dirty bulk experiment and update on my current physique

Dirty bulk experiment and update on my current physique

Bulking
Even though I don’t really recommended it I did it anyway – dirty bulking for 10 whole weeks. The results? Not great as you probably imagine, but it was a real treat I’m telling you. But let’s rewind a little bit to the starting point – the end of my cutting phase. So at the very beginning of 2016 I started cutting back on calories and being careful with my macros, with a goal of getting down to 10% body fat. Even though the cutting went relatively well (I lost 15 pounds of pure fat), after 14 weeks I reached 12% body fat and stopped cutting. So I didn’t hit the 10% target. I was tired of it and just wanted to eat more again. Here are the before and…

How to make lagging muscle groups grow bigger

How to make lagging muscle groups grow bigger

Muscle Building
If you are like me, or like most people as a matter of fact, you probably have at least one body part that is a bit weaker or that you simply are not happy with. It makes you look slightly dis-proportioned and it may even get in your way of training other parts optimally, even if you don’t know it. Anyways, having an all around well developed and proportional body is what aesthetics and bodybuilding is all about and a muscle group that is lagging can ruin the overall look of your body, even though everything else is nicely developed. Now, on a personal note, even though I am not very muscular all around, I can tell that my shoulders have been lagging behind quite a lot. I made adjustments…

Why most people fail to get lean – Willpower | Motivational Video (ft. CT Fletcher)

Motivation
Introduction Everybody who’s into fitness or aesthetics or just wants to build a nice looking physique is probably interested (to say the least) in controlling their body fat level. Everybody talks about getting lean and staying lean forever once they reached their goal physique. And there’s nothing to blame them for – moderate to low body fat levels combined with a decent amount of muscle mass is the secret to a nice looking body. But once you get down to extremely low body fat levels such as less than 7% for males and 11% for females things start to get nasty and unhealthy. Long story short, the body fat level is probably the second most discussed topic in fitness, after muscle building. That’s why I think it needs an article…

6 Fitness YouTubers I follow (and you should too)

Personal
Whenever I have some spare time I like to jump on YouTube and check out the videos of a handful of fitness people I follow. I started watching most of these guys 1.5 years ago, right after I started working out, when I was looking for dieting and training advice. Now it has become more like a habit and I rarely watch them for advice – even though some of them are providing great information – but mainly I watch these guys because I somehow got hooked up to their vlogs. Here’s what’s on my YouTube subscription list. Hodgetwins These guys are making all kinds of gains. If you’re into fitness and you watch YouTube you must be familiar with catch phrases such as “making all kinds of gains” or…

Tips for dealing with water retention and weight loss

Tips for dealing with water retention and weight loss

Weight Loss
In the past few months I’ve covered the most common weight loss and diet topics such as caloric restriction, macro-nutrients, cheat meals, refeed days and so on and so forth. If you’ve been reading all these articles you should know already what to do when you’re not losing weight anymore. You know that you need to look more carefully at calories, revisit your macro distribution and make sure you are in a correct energy deficit. You know that you need to include refeed days in your diet from time to time, or even take a break from the diet and you probably know how to implement the right workout plan and cardio training in order to achieve the negative energy balance you are aiming for. If you are doing all that…

Are there good and bad exercises for muscle growth?

Are there good and bad exercises for muscle growth?

Exercise & Training, Muscle Building
If you are wondering which are the best exercises you can do in the gym in order to make gains as fast as possible you are in the right place. I like to look at the human body as a project – a work in progress project. Your body is your master piece and you are the artist who designs it. You also have a tool box full of different exercises, different workout routines – high rep, low rep, high volume, low volume, high intensity, low intensity and so on. The purpose of this article is to see what tools (exercises) we have in that tool box, when and how to use them in order to optimize our progress towards our goals. If you’ve been asking around about that type…
